The internationally-recognised recycling symbol below is called the Mobius Loop. Each arrow represents an aspect of a successful recycling programme: collection, remanufacturing/reprocessing into a new product, and purchase by the consumer.
If this symbol is displayed on a product, it means a product is capable of being recycled. Only if there is a clarifying statement accompanying the symbol or a percentage figure in the middle of the Mobius Loop, does it mean that the product contains recycled fibres.
Five Good Reasons to Recycle
- Each year UK households throw away almost 30 million tonnes of waste, that's the same as 4.3 million African Elephants. [1]
- In less than 2 hours the UK produces enough waste to fill the Albert Hall. [2]
- Every year we need a forest the size of Wales to provide all the paper we use in Britain. [1]
- In the UK today, nearly 5 million tonnes of paper are dumped in landfill or incinerated every year. [1]
- Every tonne (1000 kg) of paper recycled saves 17 trees. [1]
